Chiclayo

Chiclayo, bordered by fertile valleys and very close to the ocean, is the capital of the department and the commercial nexus among the three Peruvian regions: coast, highland, and jungle. This territory was the cradle of the Mochicas, who lived there between the first and fourth centuries A.D., which makes this region one of the most interesting archeological destinations in the country. In recent years, the most important archaeological monuments – belonging to the Mochica, Lambayeque, Chimu and Sicán cultures – have been found in this northern region. Archaeologists continue to work in this area today, discovering many more of the riches of our past. The Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, the Brunning Museum and the Sicán Museum are must visits. We cannot fail to mention its cuisine, which for many is the best example of Peru’s regional cuisine.
