This is a dynamically designed museum that places exhibited objects into context, submerging the visitor into the world of the inhabitants of the Chicama Valley. A fascinating tour through the daily and symbolic world of the inhabitants of this part of Peru, which places the customs and beliefs of the past side by side with those of our present-day lives, culminating with the most mysterious find of modern times, the Lady of Cao. The female mummy baptized the Lady of Cao, is one of the best-ever relics of a civilization that ended more than 1,300 years ago. The mummy was accompanied by ceremonial items including jewelry and weapons, and the remains of a teenage girl who had been sacrificed. The well-appointed and modern Cao Museum gives a complete overview of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex and the many ancient and intriguing objects that were found there, including funeral objects, weaving tools, and jewelry. Even so, “La Senora Cao’s” mummy is definitely the highlight.
