Amantani is located 36 Km (22 miles) northeast from Puno on Lake Titicaca. It covers some 9 sq. Km (3.5 sq. miles). The flora is characterized by the presence of bushes like the muña, the cantuta, the sage, the tola and the patamuña. Eight communities live on the island and make their living from growing potatoes, corn, oca, quinoa, lima beans, and green peas, and their most representative handicrafts are textiles and stone carvings. Its population is Aymara ethno and is dedicated basically to the agriculture concentrated on the town of Amantani. The ancestral customs of their residents, the way of life and landscapes, will make your visit full of exciting moments. The same as in Taquile, it is their inhabitants’ habit to offer their housing and food to the visitors that want to spend the night. The handmade works carried out in textile; ceramic and furrier are magnificent.
